Those who desire to bring our state and federal government back to the inspired principles of our Constitution and Bill of Rights have united to form a new political party, The Constitution Party of Utah. We welcome freedom loving citizens who support the principles of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.

 

What We Believe

- Restore the United States to "One Nation Under God"

- Return to Constitutional, Limited Government and Stop All Unconstitutional Spending

- Protect the Inalienable Right to Life of All, including the Unborn and Infirm

- Protect the Individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms

- Restore National Sovereignty, including Withdrawal from the United Nations

- Maintain a Strong National Defense

- Protect the Inalienable Rights of Liberty and Private Property

- Abolish the Federal Reserve, Restore Constitutional Money, and Repeal the Unconstitutional Income Tax

- Promote Pro-family Policies

- End Federal Subsidies for and control of Education and Welfare and Abolish Special Interest Entitlements

- Demand that Government uphold currently existing immigration laws and seal and protect our borders

- Return Control over Elections to the People

Abortion: We believe in the dignity and sanctity of all human life. The unborn child has a fundamental right to life. We believe the basis for abortion is a grievous assault on the God given right to life. We endorse state legislation to make it clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's Section 1 protections apply to unborn children.

 

Education:  The U.S. Constitution does not grant the Federal Government power or authority over the education of children. We support the right of parents to provide for the education of their children in the manner they deem best. We resist federal intrusion by rejecting the "No Child Left Behind" Act, and by rejecting federal monies for grades K-12.

 

Elections: Elections play a vital role in a free state. The integrity and credibility of elections is a matter of great concern. The recent introduction of electronic voting machines, without adequate testing and oversight, have shown them to be vulnerable to tampering. Any vote counting system must be proven to be accurate, verifiable, secure, and timely regardless of how it is conducted. It is critical that voters know their votes are counted and reported accurately.

 

English: We support legislation which makes English the official language of Utah's government. All government documents will be in English. School instruction will be in English.

 

Federal Intervention: We support Article 4, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion, and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."

 

Federal Lands: All Utah BLM and Forest Service lands should revert to state ownership and management. All wilderness-designated lands should be open for review and use decided on a case-by-case basis.

 

Freedom of Association: Laws which endeavor to force inclusion are morally wrong. There should be no discrimination based on race, religion, ethnicity, or gender. Quotas are unfair and should be eliminated.

 

Freedom of Religion: The Founding Fathers realized the necessity of keeping government out of religion to avoid the establishment of a despotic state sponsored religion. The Constitution Party of Utah believes in pursuing and protecting all of our inalienable rights, including Freedom of Religion. We welcome all citizens, regardless of religious affiliation, who are drawn together by the common belief in preserving the Constitution.

 

Gun Rights:  In the Second Amendment and where ever the word "people" is used, it refers to the citizens of the nation. The people ARE the militia, and are not separate from the militia.  It also states that the purpose of the militia is for the security of a free State. The right of the people to bear (fire)arms shall not be infringed, hampered, or denied except in those cases where the right is abused. 

 

Health Care:  Health care needs to be procured by the citizen, through their chosen provider. Any government intrusion into health care lessens the quality and quantity of care provided by physicians to their patients and gives more power to bureaucrats who have no stake in the patient's welfare or health.

 

Illegal Immigration:  Section 8 of Article 1 states that Congress was to "Establish a Uniform Rule of Naturalization to be adhered to in the future." The 14th Amendment was passed to ensure that newly freed slaves who were born here would be recognized. It does not apply to anchor babies. While all people have inalienable rights, it does not mean that those who are not citizens are deserving of free or subsidized medical care, housing, food, and education. Nor does it require issuing a Driver's License or any type of identification, for those whose identification cannot be verified. Illegal aliens when found need to be deported.

 

Judicial Activism: The Constitution Party of Utah believes in justice. We firmly believe in being governed as a nation of laws, not people. The Federal and Utah Constitutions are NOT living documents, and therefore, should not arbitrarily be changed by any judge or lawyer, without adhering to the amendment process. Laws should come from the legislature, not the judiciary.

 

Juries: Trial by jury of our peers is one of our bulwarks against government tyranny. Jurors must have the power to return a 'not guilty' verdict if the juror believes that an acquittal will serve justice, if the law is unjust or unjustly applied.  Instructions to jurors must inform them of this power.

 

Law Enforcement: We believe in local control of our police departments. We do not want them to be militarized or become an arm of the Federal government. All monies from the Federal system should be rejected. As the saying goes, "He, who pays the fiddler, calls the tune."

 

National Surveillance: The people must not be under surveillance by government without due process of law. Governmental agencies may monitor citizens only with judicial oversight.

 

Real ID: We strongly oppose the REAL ID Act and all similar measures which create a national ID. We also oppose the aggregation of personal data in a national database, particularly one accessible by all federal agencies. Aggregated personal databases are inherently insecure and the data easily misused.

 

State Sovereignty: The U.S. Constitution was established by the states. The problems we face regarding Federal incursion into states rights could be avoided if we were to restore the original balance of power, including state's pre-eminence over the feds.

 

Taxes and Governmental Policies: Control of taxes should be local and simplified. This would result in lower income, property and sales tax. The private sector can often meet the needs of the people more cost effectively and competently and should be used when appropriate.

 

Veterans: We recognize that our veterans are owed a debt of gratitude for preserving and promoting American security. We support efforts to assist veterans in rejoining civilian society. We vigorously resist attempts by government agencies to nullify or reduce contractually earned benefits to veterans and their survivors.
